In The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, some players get stuck during the Battle for Castle Kvatch quest, which is bugged. Unfortunatley, the bug is quite old and still isn’t patched.
After you fight with Savlian Matius and his guards and clear the courtyard, nothing happens.
Savlian just stands in front of the castle door and keeps saying, “Charge the courtyard! Leave none of them standing!” even though all the enemies are already dead.
Bug Not New In Elder Scrolls Series
This type of bug is not new in the Elder Scrolls series. It was in the original release, too.

Players from different gaming communities have clarified that they face the same issue, and it’s common.
Some tried going back to the church or checking with other NPCs, but it didn’t fix it. The game still thinks you didn’t clear the courtyard. This is why Savlian doesn’t move forward.
How To Fix The Bugged Battle For Castle Kvatch Quest
One simple solution is to stop waiting for Savlian and enter the castle alone.
Kill all the enemies inside. In the Count’s bedroom, you will find the Count dead. Take the Count’s Signet Ring from his body and bring it back to Savlian.

This should make the quest continue. But sometimes, the ring is not the right one. It might be just a normal ring.
If this happens, take everything from the Count’s body, leave the room or go back to the main hall, then return. Check the body again. The right ring should show up this time.
Extra Help For PC Players
If you are playing on PC, there is one more thing you can try. Open the console by pressing the ~ key. Then type this:
- set ms49.courtyardkilled to 9
This command tells the game that all enemies in the courtyard are dead. Savlian should then start moving and the quest will go on.
A player from Steam also said this worked for them. If you are playing on console like PS5, you can’t use commands.

You have to try the ring method. If nothing works, you may need to load an earlier save before the courtyard fight. This bug is old, but you can still finish the quest if you follow these steps.
