The Thief Quest In Mandragora: Whispers Of The Witch Tree

Published on:

Thief Quest in Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is an exciting side adventure involving a strange cat and missing ingredients. This quest becomes available after defeating the Entropic Wyrm Boss.

Apart from being a small diversion, it is extremely entertaining and has meaningful consequences for the player’s experience.

Starting The Thief Quest

To begin the quest, talk to Alannah, an NPC herbalist in the camp: “I hate to bother you with this, but I’ve noticed that small amounts of my ingredients have been disappearing,” she approaches.

When you ask if she suspects someone, Alannah explains that this issue has persisted for years.

At first, she thought she had just lost things while on the road or miscounted her stock. But now that she’s been at the camp for a while, she knows somebody’s taking her stuff.

After this conversation concludes, you receive your first objective: “Follow The Trails.” True to its name, this task requires you to follow the trail.

While you’ll encounter several NPCs along your path, there’s no need to interact with them. Simply continue following the trail until you reach the end of the trail.

Meeting Faust And Confronting Alannah

The chase leads to a surprising meeting with Faust, the three-eyed cat. He regards you sarcastically from his end: “I don’t suppose you’d look the other way if I said, ‘meow,’ now would you?”

Your character responds with surprise, asking if this is Alannah’s cat. Faust indignantly corrects you: “Her cat? Please… If anything, she’s my human. But… let’s discuss why you’re here – the missing ingredients. Yes, well… That is my own business. Not for human eyes – if they want to keep them.”

Then, the cat’s ultimatum goes: “You never speak a word about what you have seen to her…”

And at this moment, you are given the choice to make between two dialogue options:

  • “Why keep this a secret from her?”
  • “How can I trust you?”

Choosing the latter gives recreation to Faust, who delivers a barely concealed threat: “Because if I were not a creature of my word, I would already have my teeth in your neck.”

The cat proceeds to create further urgency, “The offer is fleeting, human! You can have it all or you can shake a poor girl’s faith in furry companions forever…. Go and lie to her about what you saw here or tell her the truth…. And find out the horrible consequences of honesty.”

Talk To Alannah And Then Make The Decision

After finishing that conversation with Faust, your next objective is: “Talk to Alannah.” So, head back to where you started and talk to her.

Alannah, ever so eager, asks, “I saw you go into the woods – did you find the thief, Inquisitor?”

Here comes another important decision that players will have to face:

  • “Yes. . . It was your cat.”
  • “No. . . No thief as far as I can tell – check your stocks.”

Rewards and Conclusion of the Quest: Enigmas of Faust

Even though both choices reward the quest’s completion, the second option (lie to protect Faust) is relatively better.

This option causes Alannah to reassess some of her suspicions: “Maybe… Maybe I have misplaced some times – I’m such a klutz. Probably just my imagination – thanks for indulging me, Inquisitor.”

Upon choosing the option “Leave,” the Thief sub-quest ends. The choice to hide Faust’s secret grants you access to a brand-new merchant – Faust will now sell herbs and seeds to aid you throughout your journey.
